Magnet" Constellation, was RP-3D
#227, which was nicknamed "Paisano
Tres" (Friend No 3). "Project
Magnet" was a program that began in
1951, with the supposed objective of
mapping the earth's magnetic field.
The aircraft was owned by the USN
and operated by the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Association. It saw
its last bit of service with VX-30,
and was sent to AMARC on 12/29/2003.

Allison for engine testing. In 1954
it was brought to Calspan
Technologies to be converted into an
in-flight simulator, and was jointly
operated by Calspan and the Wright
Air Development Center. The most
noticeable exterior modification was
the addition of an F-94 nose. #120
made countless test flights,
including flight control evaluations
for the X-15, X-24, F-15 and F-16.
It retired 4/28/1997 as the oldest
flying USAF aircraft.
